It has been nearly a month since the Neosho County volleyball team last lost a match. To be more specific it has been 29 days since the Panthers last dropped a match when they fell to Butler on September 11. After a frantic start to the schedule, the last couple weeks have slowed down for the Panthers as they have played only twice each week. This week will be a different story as they played a pair of midweek games before gearing up to host the NCCC Invitational Friday and Saturday.

The Panthers kicked off the week traveling to Hesston College Monday (Oct. 7) for a Region VI match. Neosho County came out sharp in the first and pounded the Larks 25-14. The second the Larks would answer back and take the 2nd set 25-19. Neosho would respond and took the 3rd set 25-19. In the fourth they would find themselves down big. After a Neosho took a timeout trailing 17-10, they would close the game on a 15-6 run to win 25-23. Despite the sloppy play at times, the Panthers were able to pick up their 14th straight win.

Laura Broadfoot dished out a career high 51 to go with 10 digs for her 3rd consecutive double-double. Her 51 digs gives her an eye popping 100 over the last two matches. Four different Panthers reached double digits in kills lead by Tasha Wampler who hit .462 for the match to go with her team high 14 kills. Genesis Mejias added 13 kills and Alexis Fulghum finished with 11 for the Panthers. Carolina Alfonso posted her third double-double in the last four games, finishing with 12 kills and 15 digs.

On Wednesday the Panthers were back on the road for a non-conference match against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Neosho picked up their 15th consecutive win in workmanlike fashion, dispatching the Norseman in straight sets 25-18, 25-15, and 25-21. Two Panthers reached double digit kills as Rosemerli Carrillo had 12 and Alfonso finished with 10. Both girls were efficient in the match as Carrillo hit .526 for the match while Alfonso hit .500.

The Panthers current 15 match win streak is the second longest in school history, one shy of the 16 match streak set in 2006. The Panthers are now 21-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The 18th ranked Panthers will look to tie the record Friday when they open play at the Neosho County Community College Invitational. Their first match of the tournament will be at 4pm when they take on Oklahoma Baptist. A win in that match would give them a shot at breaking the record Friday night when they take on Pratt at 8pm.

Neosho will also play a pair of games Saturday with their first match at 12pm against Seminole State College, and their second at 4pm against Labette. The tournament opens up at 2pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday
