Project Turf

Project "Turf"
On Dec. 3, 2009, Neosho County Community College broke ground on adding artificial turf to Hudson Field. This project was fundraised entirely by the Neosho County Baseball Team. In the past, major funds had been used to go on spring trip to play some of the finest teams in the country. However, with the new four game series adopted by the conference, the spring breaks in the future will be spent at home playing conference schools. The Panthers decided to use these funds yearly to pay off a brand new turf surface over the next 10 years. The idea was taken to former President, Dr. Vicky Smith on October 4, 2009. She approved and then took the idea to the Board of Trustees on Oct. 8, 2009. After gaining their approval, Coach Murry then went to Claudia Christiansen, Director of Development, for her approval to underwrite the financing. Once she was aboard and received the NCCC Foundation Board's approval, the project was underway. ATG Sports was hired to do the entire project. Matt Smith headed the charge for ATG and came to campus to listen to the ideas. Some of those included a turf mound and striping of the field.
This major renovation was a $371,689.40 project that included a new artificial surface on the infield and sidelines along with the bullpens. It also included a new backstop that runs from dugout to dugout. The funds will continue to be raised through yearly calendar sales, t-shirt sales and our annual hit-a-thon along with private donations. To receive a charitable tax deduction for your donation, please make checks payable to the NCCC Foundation/Turf. The Neosho County Community College Foundation is a 501©3 charitable organization.
You can see pictures of the project on this photo journal page. We will continue to recognize individuals or groups that have donated $100 or more towards this project.

If you are interested in giving to this project, you can contact Steve Murry at smurry@neosho.edu or can call 620 212-2434.
