The Neosho County Panthers volleyball team took the short drive to Iola, Kansas over the weekend for a tournament hosted by Allen Community College. They would face a tough test in their opening game as they squared off against #17
th ranked Fort Scott Greyhounds.
The first match of the tournament would take five sets to be decided, but they Panthers would outlast the Greyhounds edging them 15-13 in the fifth set. The two teams would go back and forth as the Panthers took sets 1 and 3 by scores of 25-22 and 25-18 and the Greyhounds took sets 2 and 4 by scores of 23-25 and 23-25.
Yuleika Jimenez led the way for the Panthers as she tallied 23 kills and 16 digs in the 5 set match.
Whitney Gifford racked up three aces to go with her 20 digs while
Mollie Ravnikar had a season high seven kills to go with her 4.5 blocks in the match.
After the long match against Fort Scott the Panthers were able to dispatch of Dodge City Community College in three games 25-20, 25-20, and 25-21. Freshman
Tasha Wampler had a great all-around game for the Panthers as she posted a .345 hitting percentage with her 11 kills while also provided four digs and three blocks.
Day two of the tournament would be smooth sailing for the Panthers as they would allow more than 15 points in only 1 set as they picked up a pair of wins.
Southeast Nebraska Community College was the first match of the day and the Panthers cruised in straight sets 25-14, 25-12, and 25-11.
Yuleika Jimenez posted her second double-double of the tournament as she had 13 kills without committing an error along with 10 digs. Middle blocker
Mollie Ravnikar chipped in five kills with an impressive .714 hitting percentage along with a pair of block.s
The Panthers finished the perfect week knocking off Labette Community College in three sets 25-15, 25-15, and 25-17. Freshman
Jessica Wehrli had nine assists in the game to go with a season high four aces.
Katie Jensen chipped in 12 digs while Jimenez would add 8 digs of her own to go with her 13 kills.
The Panthers are now 13-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play. They look to keep their five match win streak alive Wednesday when they host Highland Community College at 6:00pm. The Scotties are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA poll.
