Box Score 4 The Neosho County Panthers traveled to Columbus, Nebraska over the weekend for the Central Community College Invitational. The Panthers would finish the weekend with a 2-2 record picking up wins versus Marshalltown Community College and Southeast Nebraska. The two losses would come at the hands of nationally ranked foes Iowa Western and host Central Community College.
Iowa Western 3, Neosho 0
The Panthers opened the tournament facing NJCAA Division I powerhouse Iowa Western. The Panthers struggled to get much going against the #2 ranked Reivers, and would fall in 3 sets 25-15, 25-19, and 25-12. Sophomore outside hitter
Haley Miller led the Panthers with 11 kills in the match while
Yuleika Jimenez and
Alexis Fulghum added 10 and 7 respectively.
Neosho 3, Marshalltown 0
The Panthers would bounce back in the night cap and take down Marshalltown 27-25, 25-20 and 25-19. Good blocking and great serving was the recipe for success in the match. The front row combined for 12.0 blocks in the match while the Panthers also tallied 7 aces.
Mollie Ravnikar led the way with 4.5 blocks and
Tasha Wampler added 3.5 of her own.
Yuleika Jimenez racked a team high 14 kills in the match while
Katie Jensen and
Whitney Gifford teamed up for 27 digs and four aces.
Neosho 3, Southeast Nebraska 0
The Panthers opened play Saturday against Southeast Nebraska and won the match in straight sets 25-19, 25-19, and 25-18. Strong serving once again helped pave the way to the win as the Panthers finished the match with a season high 8 aces.
Yuleika Jimenez had a great all-around game for the Panthers as she finished with a team high 14 kills to go with 9 digs.
Laura Broadfoot was a key contributor as she had 28 assists in the match.
Central Community College 3, Neosho 2
The last game of the tournament featured Neosho County and tournament hosts #12 Central Community College. The Panthers got off to a great start as they took the first 2 sets 25-20 and 25-22. The third set would see the Panthers drop a tough one 26-24. The win would spark the Raiders as they would take the fourth set 25-14 before finishing the match with a 15-11 win. Yuleike Jimenez would once again lead the Panthers with a season high 24 kills in the match, while
Haley Miller added 13.
Katie Jensen and
Whitney Gifford were great defensively as they teamed up for 48 digs.
The Panthers are now 5-5 overall and 1-1 in Jayhawk Conference play. They will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Butler Community College to take on the Grizzlies in a conference match.
