Neosho County picked up a crucial Region win Wednesday when they beat the Hesston Larks in four sets. They overcame a rocky start dropping the first set before bouncing back to win the match 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16. The Panthers have now won nine of their last 11 games and are 17-10 overall and 4-2 in Region VI games.

The Larks came out firing on all cylinders in the first set and jumped out to an early 14-9 lead before a Neosho timeout. The Panthers began to battle back at that point, cutting the lead to two at 22-20 with a pair of kills by Yuleika Jimenez, but that is all the closer they would get.

The second set would see the Panthers come out with more intensity as they took an early lead despite three early serving errors. The Larks would make a 5-0 run to take the lead at 12-9 before the Panthers answered back with a 6-0 run of their own forcing a Hesston timeout with the Neosho leading 15-12. The turning point in the game came when, after a long volley Yuleika Jimenez had a thunderous kill to excite the crowd making the Panther's lead 17-15.

The Panthers would continue to play better as the match wore on. Haley Miller would have a huge third set for the Panthers as the sophomore outside hitter tallied seven kills in the set. She took over the match with the Panthers leading 19-16 she went on a run with four straight kills.

The fourth set would be the best one of the night for the Panthers. Yuleika Jimenez hit .462 for the set on her way to seven kills. Laura Broadfoot nearly tallied a double-double in the fourth set alone as she had eight digs to go with her 11 assists.

The Panthers served well for the match despite six serving errors as Jimenez, Whitney Gifford, and Jessica Wehrli each had a pair of aces. Katie Jensen had a game high 21 digs for the Panthers while Tasha Wampler played a great game on both sides of the net recording seven kills to go with her seven blocks.

A pair of Panthers each posted double-doubles as Yuleika Jimenez had 13 digs to go with her 20 kills. Laura Broadfoot distributed the ball well dishing out 38 assists while finishing with 17 digs. Haley Miller joined Jimenez with double figure kills as she finished the night with 16.

Head Coach Asya Herron liked the effort her girls showed after the sloppy start. “We did a good job tonight of not letting the rough first set dictate the rest of the night. We played better each set and got some nice performances from some young girls. Tasha Wampler did a tremendous job blocking tonight.”

The Panthers are off this weekend before taking to the road Monday to take on No. 12 Kansas City Kansas Community College. The Blue Devils are currently 5-0 in Region play and 20-2 overall. Game time is at 6:30pm.
