No. 13 Cavaliers Too Much For Panthers

Box Score The Neosho County Panthers hosted the No. 13 Johnson County Cavaliers Wednesday (Oct. 22) looking to reach 20 wins for the second season in a row. The Cavaliers would take a back and forth first game 26-24 before grabbing control of the match taking games two and three 25-9 and 25-11.
 
The first game went back and forth with the teams trading points before Johnson went on a run to take the lead 12-8. The Panthers would rally back to get within a point at 13-12 before finally tying the game at 15.
 
Johnson would regain the lead at 19-16. The Panthers would respond as Yuleika Jimenez recorded three straight kills giving the Panthers their first lead of the game 21-20 prompting Johnson to take a timeout. The teams would go back and forth with Johnson forcing game point 24-23 before Tasha Wampler's fourth kill of the set tied the game up. Johnson would score the next two to take the first game.
 
The Cavaliers would take control of the match after the first game. After hitting .325 as a team in the first, the Panthers would hit .148 in the second and .037 in the third. The Panthers struggled to handle the Cavalier offensive attack as they used a mix of power and finesse keeping the defense on its heels for the rest of the match.
 
The Panthers will play their final regular season match of the year Wednesday (Oct. 24) at 6:30pm when the host Allen Community College. The Panthers currently are seventh in the region one game ahead of Allen and Hesston. A win on Wednesday would secure the seven seed for the regional tournament while a loss would drop the Panthers to eighth sending them to NJCAA No. 1 Cowley College.
