Chanute, KS - The Neosho men's soccer team faced a tough test against #16 Ranked Barton CC, who were coming into the game full of confidence after beating #3 Cowley last time out. Neosho started the game fast and went up 1-0 after just 5 minutes of play when
Gerardo Garcia went on a run, found his way into the box and drilled the ball into the far corner. Neosho made it 2-0 a couple of minutes later from a fine set piece that
Jack Kay redirected across the face of the goal and
Charlie Wells was able to put home. Neosho should've killed the game off but were unable to finish a handful of chances, those missed opportunities would come back to haunt them later on in the game.
Neosho was against the wind in the second half, while Barton had a lot of the ball they didn't really create much, but 15 minutes in a lofted cross found its way to Bartons only player in the box who converted to pull a goal back. The game continued in similar fashion with Barton having most of the ball but not really creating anything of note. Neosho handed another goal on a plate to Barton after failing to deal with a corner kick put into the box, the Barton players had more hunger and fired from close range to equalize. The game headed to extra time, Neosho had to face the wind again as they lost the coin toss, extra time did not last long as Barton scored a carbon copy of their second goal to win the match.
Next up, Neosho will head to the road Wednesday September 21
st, 2022, to face Johnson County in what promises to be another difficult test.
