Box Score 4 Topeka, KS (May 14, 2022- May 16, 2022) – Neosho Softball's season comes to an end after a weekend of Regional play in Topeka, KS. Playing four games, facing a day-long weather delay, and sending home two conference competitors (Cowley College and Labette College), the Panthers made it to the Championship game against Murray State. The Panthers finish the season with a record of 35- 16.
To Finish the year, the Panthers had two pitchers,
Olivia Cummings and
Cassidy Paulson, complete the regular season top in ERA and three top in Stolen Bases,
Espy Daniels,
Riley Kennedy, and
Devynn Raile. Daniels and Kennedy broke the school's single-season record with 50 and 33, respectively.
Saturday, May 14, 2022 (NCCC 0, MSC 9 and NCCC 7, CC 5) –
The Panther open regional bracket play with Murray State College. The Panthers struggled to get on the board and catch up to an explosive offense from the Aggies. Going down in the first elimination game puts the Panthers in the Losers bracket with a hard road ahead.
The Panthers played Cowley College with a quick turnaround to keep their season alive. The Panthers, in new spirits, jump out to a big lead in the game scoring four runs in the third and two in the fourth. Cowley was able to scratch one across in the sixth which Neosho answered back with one of their right ways in the bottom of the inning. With only three outs left for the Panthers to advance to the next day, Cowley made a four-run comeback in the top of the seventh inning. Ending the game with a ground ball to the pitcher, Neosho advanced to play Labette College in the next round
Monday, May 16, 2022 (NCCC 2, LCC 1 and NCCC 3, MSC 10) –
Neosho starts the day facing Labette Community College. The Panthers got out to a fast start by scoring a run in the first inning. They held the lead until Labette tied it up in the third inning. Going into the seventh as the visiting team, Neosho scored the go-ahead and eventual winning run in the top of the inning on a
Lauren Fuller RBI. With the close win, the Panthers advance to the Championship game.
The Panthers for a second time in the weekend, face Murray State. Falling Behind early the Panthers are able to spark some hits and runs including a home run to break the shutout from
Hannah Duin.
Unable to outscore Murray State, the Panthers lost 10-3 ending their season in Topeka. Neosho Softball graduates 12 Sophomores and returning 10 freshmen in high hopes to return to regionals in the 2023 season and advancing to the World Series.
