Box Score 2 Panthers Open Conference with Two Loses to Highland
Chanute, KS (March 17, 2022) – The Panthers open their conference play of the 2022 season by getting swept by Highland in a doubleheader on Thursday. After falling behind in both games, the Panthers were able to make work of small comebacks to end with close games on the record but were unable to pull through to get the wins.
Game One – (HCC 6, NCCC 4):
Highland College got on the scoreboard first with a solo home run in the first inning. After scoring again with three in the third and two in the fourth, the Panthers started to rally back.
The Panthers scored one in the third to get on the board after a single by
Devynn Raile who later scored on a single shot to center by
Olivia Cummings. In the fourth, the Panthers again answered back with three more runs with Paulson, Daniels, and Raile scoring on hits by
Hannah Duin and Raile, in successive order.
Cummings started the game in the circle for the Panthers. Cummings went three innings, allowing four runs on three hits before
Lauren Fuller came in relief to throw the final four innings.
Game Two – (HCC 6, NCCC 5):
In a similar fashion to game one, Highland got on the board first after scoring two runs in the second inning. The Panthers made work of tying up the score 2-2 in the third scoring on a bases-loaded walk by Cummings and a passed ball.
In the back and forth happening all day, the Panthers entered the bottom of the seventh down by three runs. Showing the last inning surge, they scored two runs on sacrifice flyouts by Cummings and Paulson before falling short the second time of the day with the 6-5 loss.
Cassidy Paulson was on the mound game two for the Panthers throwing the full seven innings giving up six runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
The Panthers are back in action this Saturday, the 19th at Cowley College @ 1:00 pm.
