Box Score CHANUTE, KAN- Men's Soccer Wins Nail-Biter in 2OT
Neosho County Community College hosted Crowder College Saturday evening at the Chanute Soccer Complex for some regular season action. The Panthers have seen the Rough Riders, as they defeated them 2-1 in a preseason scrimmage.
How it Happened:
Crowder came out with their foot pedal to the metal and put themselves in front within the first 10 minutes with a ball crossed into the box from the right hand side and a beautiful header at the near post past the Panthers goalkeeper
Matteo Serra. The Rough Riders quickly made it 2-0 before the 20 minute mark when yet another ball was crossed into the box and was also headed into the goal.
The Panthers stepped up their game and and began to created some chances of their own.
Adam Szostak was fouled in the box and the Orange and Black received a penalty kick.
Leonardo Menzen converted the penalty in the 40th minute to make the score 2-1 at the half.
Neosho piled on the pressure in the second half and created more chances but failed to convert until
Diogo Costa played a cross field ball to
Daniel Rivera inside to put the ball into the top corner with his left foot. The pressure continued through the second half and the Crowder goalkeeper made some great plays to keep the game at 2-2 at the end of regulation.
In overtime, Neosho had wave after wave of attack, but again, failed to convert the ball into the goal.
Jack Kay broke through in the 95th minutes and shot the ball over the crossbar. This left the game tied 2-2 with the first overtime coming to a close.
The second overtime was much of the same, waves of attack from the Orange and Black, that were shut down by the Crowder defense. However,
Max Russell broke through and put pressure on the Crowder goalkeeper, who made a save, but failed to hold the ball.
Travis Martin swooped in and put the ball in the back of the goal to send the Rough Riders home, and give the Panthers a 3-2 victory.
The Panthers will travel to Kansas City in their conference opener at KCKCC on Wednesday at 7.30PM. Be sure to tune into the action via livestream at:
