Head Basketball coach
Jeremy Coombs announced this afternoon that he has accepted the vacant Head Coaching position at Barton County Community College. Coombs, who has been the head basketball coach at Neosho County for the past 14 years will head to the West side of the KJCCC to take the helm for the Cougars. Coach Coombs leaves the Panthers as their all-time winningest coach, with a record of 228-203. The Panthers saw great success under Coombs in 2016 when Coombs' Panthers went 30-6. Coombs was named the 2016 Region VI Coach of the Year as Neosho captured their first-ever Region VI Championship by defeating the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College 66-58.
Under Coach Coombs, Neosho basketball produced six NJCAA All-Americans, two KJCCC Players of the Year, thirty NCAA Division I players, twenty-four All-Conference players, seventeen All-Region players, and thirteen former players playing basketball professionally.
Coach Coombs had this to say about the transition, "First and foremost, I want to thank: Dr. Brian Inbody, Riann Mullis, and all the employees at NCCC that helped make our program successful in the classroom, in the community, and on the court. I also want to thank Dr. Vicky Smith and former Athletic Director Mike Kiefer who took a chance on me 14 years ago. The success on the court would not have been possible without my fantastic assistant coaches over the past 14 years. My current assistants Clint Isaac and Justin Fairman were amazing to work with, and made my life so much easier each and every day. I have also had the privilage of having fantastic players flow through the program that have helped build the program from the bottom to the top. It has been an amazing 14 years and wasn't an easy decision to leave. However, it felt like the right time to move on and to take on a new challenge. I have no doubt that someone will come in and take Neosho County hoops into the NJCAA Division II spotlight".
Neosho County Athletics would like to thank Coach Coombs for his 14 years of service as a Neosho County Panther. Panther Nation wishes the Coombs family the best of luck in their new endeavor with Barton County.
