Game Recap: Baseball |

Panthers Split with Labette at Hudson Field

The Panther baseball team was back in action to finish off their four game series with the Cardinals of Labette Community College this afternoon. Neosho County hosted the doubleheader from Hudson Field. The Panthers split with the Cardinals, dropping game #1 9-6, and getting the win in run-rule fashion 18-4 in game #2. The split sends the Panthers overall record to 11-14, and puts them at 6-10 in KJCCC play.
Game 1:
Owen Chaffin took the mound for the Panthers in game one of the doubleheader. Chaffin tossed 4.0 innings, gave up 9 hits, and 5 earned runs. Jacob Beckmann and Andrew Hansen threw out of the bullpen and tossed 3.0 innings of scoreless innings, 2 for Beckmann, 1 for Hansen. The Panther pitching staff saw some recurring themes from the year occur, as they gave up 6 free passes, 2 errors, and 3 HR. The free passes ultimately hurt the Panthers as the Cardinals would score 9 runs on only 4 hits off of Chaffin.

Offensively, the Panthers struggled to string together hits on the left handed pitcher from Labette CC. The Panthers scored 6 runs on 7 hits. Khalil Thrasher and Jack Cosper were bright spots for the Panthers offensively, as they both had two hits in the ball game. Neosho County hitters had some recurring themes from the year as well. They struck out 13 times and left 7 base runners on base over the course of the game. The recurring themes pitching wise, defensively, and offensively, would prove to be too much, as the Panthers fell to the Cardinals 9-6.
Game 2:
Game two would prove to be a tale of two teams, as the Panthers would come out and put it on the Labette Cardinals. Drake LaRoche took the mound for the Panthers in game 2 and he did not disappoint. After a crooked number in the 1st inning, LaRoche dominated the Cardinals. He tossed 7.0 innings, allowed 4 runs, and scattered 7 hits, to earn himself his second win of the season. The biggest stat of the afternoon for LaRoche was that he gave up 0 free passes. The Cardinals had to earn every single run they scored, two of which came from the long ball.

Offensively, the Panthers scored 18 runs, scorching the baseball all over the field for 16 hits, and also walked 8 times in the game. The Panthers also found a way to cash in runners on base as they had 18 RBI. There were several Neosho hitters that had multi hit games: Khalil Thrasher (3), Daegan Brady (2), Mason Lundgrin (2), Brett Wiemers (2), and Tyler Dinges (2). Overall, the Panthers played very well in game 2 and took a 18-4 victory over the Cardinals in 7 innings.

The Panthers will take Easter Sunday off to spend time with their families, and recover their bodies. They will be back in action from Hudson Field on Monday, April 5th, as the Ottawa University JV Braves come to Chanute for a DH. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1:00 PM.
