The Panthers hit the road to finish up their four game KJCCC series with the Blue Devils of Kansas City Community College this afternoon. Neosho County got some great weather to play in for the two games. The Panthers split the day today, falling to the Blue Devils in game one 12-6 and taking game two 7-5. The split sends the Panthers overall record to 20-24 and their KJCCC record to 9-19.
Game 1:
Neosho County sent freshman
Owen Chaffin to the hill to start game one. Chaffin was brilliant through 3 innings allowing no runs. Unfortunately, for him, and the Panthers, the wheels fell off in the 4th inning. KCK started the 4th inning with 5 straight hits to plate four runs.
Tyler McQuinn would come out of the pen for the Panthers and do just what he was asked to do. Unfortunately, after 4 errors in the inning, the Blue Devils would score 11 runs.
Jordan Linderer tossed an inning out of the bullpen for the Panthers, giving up 1 run on 1 hit.
Brance Ware tossed the 6th inning, logging a 1,2,3 inning. Offensively, the Panthers would score 6 runs on 8 hits.
Khalil Thrasher and
Mack Clark led the way for Neosho County, as both players notched 2 hits. The damage of the 4th inning was too much to overcome and the Panthers would eventually fall 12-6.Â
Game 2:Â
The Panthers looked to Fort Scott native,
Drake LaRoche to start game 4. LaRoche gave the Panthers just what they needed in his 9 innings of work. The right hander gave up 4 earned runs, scattered 7 hits, and struck out 5 Blue Devils. He faced 37 hitters and induced 12 ground outs and 9 fly outs. LaRoche attacked KCK's hitters and stayed ahead of KCK's lineup the entire game. Offensively, the Panthers were very aggressive in the box and scored 7 runs on 11 hits.
Daegan Brady,
Ivan Witt, and
Jack Cosper all had multi-hit games in game 2. The solid performance from LaRoche and the timely hitting of the Panthers were just what the doctor ordered to come away with a 7-5 win in game 2.
What's Next:
The Panthers will square off with the Metropolitan Community College Wolves in non-conference action, at Urban Youth Academy, in Kansas City, MO. The single nine inning contest is scheduled for Tuesday, April 27, at 1:00 PM.
