Panthers Split with #6 Johnson at Hudson Field

The Panthers and the Cavaliers of Johnson County Community College squared off this afternoon to finish off their four game series. The Panthers managed to split with the #6 ranked Cavaliers taking game one 8-5 and falling 15-4 in game two. The split sends the Panthers overall record to 15-21 and 8-16 in KJCCC play.

Game 1:
The Panthers sent freshman right handed pitcher Owen Chaffin to the hill. Chaffin tossed 7.0 innings giving up 5 earned runs and scattered 8 hits. The Cavaliers did their damage offensively in the 2nd and 3rd inning of this ballgame. Outside of those innings, Chaffin held the explosive offense of Johnson County under control.The Panthers offense plated 8 runs on 10 hits in the win. The fireworks came in the 7th inning, when the Panthers were down 5-3 in the last frame. The rally started when Khalil Thrasher singled with one out. Daegan Brady added to the rally by doubling into the right-center gap. The Cavaliers intentionally walked Mason Lundgrin to create a force play all around. Freshman catcher, Ivan Witt, singled up the middle to score two, and tie the game up at 5-5. Drew Miller decided to call game, as he hit a towering fly ball that cleared the outfield fence, to score Witt and Lundgrin. The walk-off HR gave the Panthers a 8-5 win and a big victory in KJCCC play. 
 
Game 2:
Neosho County started freshman pitcher Drake LaRoche in game four of the series. LaRoche tossed 5.0 innings, gave up 7 earned runs, and 18 hits in his outing. Andrew Hansen and Brett Wiemers also made an appearance out of the bullpen for the Panthers. The Panthers struggled offensively, scoring 4 runs on 10 hits. The concern for the Panthers in the loss was on the defensive side. The Panthers committed 4 errors, in big spots in the game. The Cavaliers capitalized on the extra at bats and found a way to score 15 runs in the shortened ball game, to take game four 15-4. 

What's Next:
