Panther baseball was back on the diamond this afternoon to finish off their four game series with the Hawks of NE Nebraska Community College at Hudson Field. Neosho County split the doubleheader today taking game one 14-4 and dropping game two 11-5.Â
Game 1:Â
The Panthers sent
Owen Chaffin to the mound to start game one of the day. Chaffin tossed a complete game logging 5.0 innings, scattering five hits, and struck out seven Hawks. Offensively, the Panthers erupted for ten hits in the game. The second inning proved to be the deciding factor as the Panthers exploded for 10 runs.
Daegan Brady, logged two hits and had two RBI for the Panthers.
Brett Wiemers also had two hits and two RBI for the boys in orange.
Khalil Thrasher showcased his opposite field power as he drove a ball over the right field fence to score three. Thrasher ended up with five total RBI in the ballgame.Â
Game 2:Â
Freshman right-handed pitcher
Drake LaRoche took the hill for the Panthers in game two. His first collegiate inning was nearly perfect. LaRoche threw 4 pitches and induced three quick outs in his opening inning. The right hander from Fort Scott, KS would end up tossing 5.2 innings giving up 11 hits, 6 earned runs, and struck out three. Offensively, the Panthers struggled to get the big hit with runners in scoring position as they left 10 runners in scoring position.
Drew Miller was a bright spot for the Panthers as he went 2-4 with 3 RBI and a solo home run.
Brett Wiemers and
Ivan Witt both notched two hits a piece in this contest.Â
Colten Nelson made his Panther debut coming in with two outs in the sixth inning and struck out the one batter he faced on three pitches.
The Panthers will have a break in their schedule due to an opposing team having a shutdown due to COVID protocols. Neosho County will host the Crowder College Roughriders on March 9 at 1:00 PM for a single 9 inning game.Â
