Game Recap: Baseball |

Neosho Baseball Splits with Northeast Nebraska

Opening Day has come and gone for Neosho County baseball. The Panthers played two games against the Hawks from Northeast Nebraska Community College. The Panthers battled hard in both games but went 1-1 on the day.
Game One:
Game one was dominated by pitching on both sides. Panther sophomore pitcher Josh Flack gave Neosho County a solid start. He gave up one run on five hits over seven innings of work. Unfortunately, for Flack Northeast Nebraska's starter scattered three hits and no runs over seven innings of work. Drew Miller, Luke Burk, and Khalil Thrasher all notched a hit in game one. If you are a fan of pitching and defense this game was definitely a good one to watch. However, the Panthers ended up on the tough side of a pitcher's dual losing the game 1-0.
Game Two:
Game two was dominated by pitching as well. Neosho County sophomore pitcher Cameron Blazek also put together a great start for the Panthers as well. He gave up two runs on  five hits in seven innings of work. The real fireworks happened in the seventh inning of the game. Northeast Nebraska had a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Andrew Brautman worked a leadoff walk to lead off the inning. Brautman advanced to second base after a NE Nebraska pick-off attempt that ended up going into right field. After a dropped third strike Brautman advanced to 3rd base with one out in the inning. Khalil Thrasher came up to the dish and delivered a sacrifice fly to score Brautman. At the end of seven the score was tied 2-2. Nathan Hungate pitched the top of the 8th for the Panthers and tossed a scoreless inning. The bottom of the 8th was a coming out party for freshman Mason Lundgrin. Lundgrin came up with no one on and two outs in the bottom of the 8th. He drove a long fly ball that cleared the right-center gap to give the Panthers a 3-2 victory.
Future Games:
The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow to finish off the series against the Hawks. They will look to build off of the momentum of Lundgrin's bat and come away with two wins tomorrow. Join us at Hudson field tomorrow for more Panther baseball. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00PM. Game two is slotted for 2:00PM.
