Coffeyville, KS- Neosho competed at the Coffeyville Invitational this last weekend. The Panthers faced Ottawa University, Metropolitan Community College, N.E.O A&M and Independence. Neosho went 1-1 on Friday taking down Ottawa in 3 sets (25-8, 25-10, 25-22) and losing a close 5 set match against Metropolitan Community College. ( 32-30, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 8-15)
In the first match of the day against Ottawa, Neosho was led by
Chandler Karr with 9 kills followed by
Savana Godfrey with 5 kills. Karr also led the Panthers in digs with 10, followed by
Kayla Maples with 8 digs.
The Panthers were closely matched with MCC in the second set of the day with two sets going extra points and 3 of the 5 sets were decided by 2 points. Neosho just fell short in the 5th and deciding set. Offensively the Panthers were led by outside hitter
Kayla Maples with 19 kills, followed by
Chandler Karr with 14 kills.
Jenna DeVore had 28 assists to led the setters for the match.
Daisy Retana led Neosho defensivley with 25 digs.
On Saturday the Panthers again went 1-1 on the day and their loss was in another tough 5 set match. The first match of the day Neosho faced N.E.O. A&M falling in 5 sets. (26-24, 16-25, 17-25, 25-20, 11-15). The Panthers were plagued by errors in the match especially in the 5th set. Once again the Panthers were led offensively by
Chandler Karr who had 17 kills in the match.
Jenna DeVore led the Panthers in assists with 22. She also had 3 aces and was 2nd in digs with 11.
The second match of the day the Panthers beat Independence in 3 sets. (25-22, 25-10, 25-15) Neosho did a better job of limiting their errors for the match. They had 33 kills with on 8 hitting errors for the match. The statistical leaders for the match were
Kayla Maples with 9 kills and 16 digs,
Sophia Padgett with 15 assists,
Keeley Tallent with 2 aces and 13 digs.
The Panthers next match up will be against conference rival Fort Scott Community College. Neosho will face off with Fort Scott on Monday, September 10th at 6:30pm in Chanute, KS.
