Chanute, KS- On Monday, the Panthers faced conference rival Fort Scott Community College at home. The Panthers came out strong and swept the Greyhounds to move to 2-1 in conference play. ( 25-16, 25-16, 25-20) Strong serving by Neosho along with errors by Fort Scott helped the Panthers to jump out to an early 8-1 lead in the first set. After winning the first set 25-16, the Panthers hoped to carry that momentum into the start of the second set, but Fort Scott jumped out to a 5-0 lead early. Again strong serving helped the Panthers go on a run that led them to regain the lead. The third set was a back and forth affair, but the Panthers were able to close out the set and the match with a 25-20 win.
Offensively the Panthers were led by outside hitter
Kayla Maples and middle hitter
Imani Jones with 7 kills respectivley and
Sophia Padgett who had 19 assists. The strong serving was led by
Ryann Flax who had 3 aces in the match.
The Panthers look to take the momentum from this sweep into the next conference match on Wednesday when they face-off with conference opponent Cowley College who is currently ranked #2 in the nation. Neosho will head to Arkansas City, KS on Wednesday to take on Cowley at 6:30pm.
