Box Score CHANUTE, Kan. –
Ryan Davis recorded his third shutout of the season and
Nelson Landaverde notched his second two-goal game of the year as Neosho blanked Cowley 4-nil to improve to 2-1 in Jayhawk Conference action.
Neosho came out against Cowley with a game plan to be aggressive and make the Tiger goalkeeper make plays to beat them. The Panthers executed to perfection as their season high 29 shots resulted in four goals on the way to a win.
Juan Ocampo got the scoring started in the 29
th minute off a great pass from
David Fuentes. Ocampo who wasn't in the starting lineup as he returns to the field after missing time nursing an injury. Ocampos goal would be the only scoring of the first half however as the Panthers clung to a 1-0 lead at the break.
It didn't take long to extend the lead in the second half however as
Nelson Landaverde scored his fourth goal of the season on a well placed shot off a free kick in the 48
th minute.
Landaverde would again find the net on a free kick in the 67
th minute, but his second goal of the game was an impressive one as he placed it just out of reach of the keeper from 45 yards out.
David Fuentes would close out the scoring in the 69
th minute, netting his second goal of the year off a pass from Landaverde to make the score 4-nil.
Ryan Davis stopped the only shot the Tigers managed to take that was on goal as the Panther defense held Cowley to just five shot attempts for the match. It was the third shutout of the season for the Panthers and improves Davis' record in goal to 5-3.
The Panthers are now 5-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Jayhawk Conference play. They will be back in action Thursday, September 23
rd when they travel to Kansas City Kansas Community College. The next home game for the Panthers will be October 5 when they host Coffeyville.
