Box Score CHANUTE, Kan. – Saturday night marked the season opener for the Neosho men's soccer team. Pitted against MCC-Blue River, the Panthers struggled to get any offense going as they fell to the Trailblazers 1-nil in their opening game.
Early in the game, Neosho showed a heavy offense which kept MCC-Blue River on their heels. The attack was broken in the ninth minute, when the Trailblazers scored the match's only goal.
The Panthers had several opportunities to score through the match, but could not capitalize on any of them. The ball would remain neutral through the half, with neither side gaining any significant advantage.
After the half and well through the sixtieth minute, the frustration at the lack of production for the Panthers was visible. MCC's defense would prove too much to handle into the sixty-seventh minute water break.
Despite an increased sense of urgency in the game's final minutes, the Panthers could not find the back of the net and fell 1-nil.
It is the first opening day loss for the Panthers since they fell to MCC-Blue River 2-1 to open the 2008 season. Neosho will look to bounce back and even their record Saturday, August 30 when they host Region 6 opponent Hesston College at 6pm.
