Box Score 4 CHANUTE, Kan. – The Neosho Panthers(17-18, 13-9) dropped a pair of close ballgames to Dodge City (20-16, 15-9) Friday afternoon, falling 1-0 and 8-5 before bouncing back to sweep Pratt (8-26, 4-16) Saturday 13-4 and 4-2.
Krissy Crow (3-5) was the hard luck loser in the opening game of the Panthers longest road trip of the season. Crow, who had missed more than two weeks due to injury, was sharp in her first outing back in the circle allowing only 1 unearned run in 6.0 innings while giving up only 3 hits and striking out 5.
Crow's stellar outing would not be enough as the Neosho offense was shut down by Dodge City's Jordan Mecham who held the Panthers scoreless while giving up only 5 hits and striking out 10 to earn the win.
Game two against the Conquistadors would see the Panthers jump out to an early lead. Neosho plated three runs in the first and two more in the second after being held scoreless in game one. The five quick runs the Panthers scored would be all they would push across.
Dodge City would slowly chip away at the Panther lead. They scored a pair in the bottom of the first and added another run in the third to make the score 5-3. The Conquistadors would grab the lead with a three run fifth inning and tacked on 2 more insurance runs in the sixth.
Amanda Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss for the Panthers after allowing 4 runs, 1 earned, in 3.0 innings of work.
Krissy Crow led the way offensively for the Panthers in the loss going 3-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Sidney Hess added a pair of RBI in the loss.
The Panthers would bounce back on Saturday with a big offensive performance in game one against Pratt. Neosho pounded out 12 hits and scored in every inning except the seventh as the cruised to a 13-4 win.
The middle of the Panther lineup was stellar as
Tiara Ewy,
Krissy Crow, and
Katie Todd were 7-11 at the plate with 6 runs scored and 7 runs driven in. For the game seven of the 9 hitters recorded a hit, drove in a run, and scored a run.
Krissy Crow (4-5) earned the win tossing her second consecutive complete game by scattering 5 hits while allowing only 2 earned runs.
After the offensive outburst in game one, the Panthers would have to work for their runs in game 2. Pratt starting pitcher Emily Woodridge held the Panthers to only six hits, but Neosho was able to capitalize on 5 errors committed by the Beavers.
After Pratt scored a run in the first off Neosho starter
Hannah Murray, Neosho responded with a run in the second. The Panthers were finally able to grab the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs. The Panthers added an insurance run in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.
Pratt would answer back with a run of their in the bottom of the fifth to pull back within two.
Meaghan Thompson would toss 2.0 innings of scoreless relief to earn her first save.
Hannah Murray (3-6) earned the win throwing 5.0 innings and allowing 2 runs, 1 earned while allowing only 3 hits.
Katie Todd and
Sydney Hess each went 2-4 at the plate for the Panthers in the win.
Kara Linch drove in a pair of runs while scoring 1 of her own.
The Panthers will travel to Crowder College Tuesday for a non-conference game before returning home for a pair of crucial Region 6 contests Friday and Saturday. Friday the Panthers will host No. RV Independence (30-14, 15-7) at 2 pm followed by a doubleheader with No. 9 Cowley (22-10, 11-9) Saturday at 12 pm.
With eight regional games left to play, the Panthers are clinging to the No. 8 spot in the Region 6 standings which would allow them to host a first round playoff game. The Panthers are poised to position themselves down the stretch as six of the final 8 region games are against teams currently in front of them in the standings.
