Tia Parker and
Tiara Ewy continued their hot play at the top of the Panther lineup as they helped Neosho (15-16, 11-7) sweep rival Allen (1-27, 0-20) 12-2 and 12-3. Parker and Ewy combined to go 11-19 with 8 runs scored, 8 runs batted in, and 4 stolen bases in the double header.
The Panthers jumped all over Allen starting pitcher Mackenzi Beck plating six runs on 6 hits in the first inning.
Lexie Heiniger and
Meaghan Thompson each drove in a pair in the first with back to back singles.
Allen would get a pair of runs back in the bottom half of the first but Neosho would continue to pile on as they added single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth. The Panthers added three more runs in the sixth to end the game by run rule.
Meaghan Thompson (5-2) picked up the win in the circle for the Panthers allowing two runs, 1 earned, over 4.0 innings of work while walking 1 and striking out 3.
Amanda Rodriguez closed out the ballgame with 2.0 inning of scoreless relief while allowing only 3 hits.
Game two would prove to be a much tougher contest for the Panthers. After scoring 12 runs in the first game, the Panthers struggled to get much going offensively. Neosho scored a pair of runs in the first and one more in the second before their bats went quiet.
Allen cut into the Panther lead with a run in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-1. Neosho finally was able to push a pair of runs across in the top of the sixth.
Jozie Garner got things started with a two-out single and
Tia Parker reached base on an error to extend the inning.
Tiara Ewy's single scored Garner and Parker would later score on a passed ball to make the score 5-1. Allen would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth off Neosho reliever
Hannah Murray.
The Panther offense broke out in a big way in the seventh inning and put the game out of reach for good. Much of the damage in the inning again came with two outs as the Panthers strung together six straight hits after the second out to score 6 of their 7 runs.
Lexie Heiniger (2-2) was the winning pitcher in game two for the Panthers after allowing 1 run on 4 hits in her 4.0 innings of work.
Hannah Murray picked up her first save tossing 3.0 innings while allowing 5 hits and 2 runs only one of which was earned.
The Panthers next scheduled game Wednesday (April 2) at Kansas City Kansas Community College has been postponed again due to rain. The Panthers next action will now be Friday and Saturday (April 4-5) when they hit the road. Friday the Panthers will be at Dodge City (16-16, 11-9) and Saturday they will be at Pratt (6-24, 2-14).
