Late runs sink Panthers against Independence

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHANUTE, Kan. – Neosho allowed 10 of their 13 runs from the fifth inning on as Independence twice came from behind to sweep the Panthers 6-4,  and 7-6 Friday afternoon.

Runs were hard to come by for the first four innings of the double header as Neosho (17-20, 13-11) scored the first run of the game on a solo homerun by Sydney Hess. The Pirates (32-14, 17-7 Region 6) responded with a six run fifth inning of Neosho starter Krissy Crow.

The Panthers got one of the runs back in the sixth and pushed two more across in the seventh but they could not overcome the big inning by Independence. Crow (4-6) took the loss for the Panthers after allowing 6 runs on 10 hits over 7.0 innings of work. She allowed one walk and struck out 7 in the loss.

Amanda Rodriguez was 2-3 at the plate and Tia Parker went 1-4 with a pair of runs batted in to lead the Panther offense.

Game two would see the Pirates score first with a run in the second. Neosho would bounce right back and take the lead on a double off the bat of Lexie Heiniger to score two runs.

The Pirates would answer back with a pair of runs in the top of the third, but Neosho would tie the game up thanks to an Independence error in the home half of the inning. The Panthers would capitalize on an Independence error once again in the fourth as two runs came across on an error by the Pirates shortstop Tori Hawk.

The teams would trade runs again in the sixth and Neosho led 6-4 heading to the seventh inning. A bunt single to start the inning was followed by a game tying two run homerun Ashleigh Hinshaw. Krissy Crow came out of the Panther bullpen and kept the game tied at six.

In extra innings the Panthers were unable to string any hits together. Tia Parker doubled in the eighth, but would be stranded. Independence finally pushed a run across in the ninth on a bunt single to take a 7-6 lead. The Panthers would get a base runner on in the ninth but again couldn't push her across.

Tia Parker once again led the way offensively going 3-5 at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored. Lexie Heiniger also had a solid day at the plate going 1-3 with a pair of runs scored and 2 RBI.
