CHANUTE, Kan. – The Neosho Panthers bounced back from a pair of losses on the road at No. 4 Highland by splitting a pair of double headers over the weekend. The Panthers dropped the opener to Hesston 6-5 before rebounding to take game two 9-3 on Friday afternoon. Saturday the Panthers would come from behind to take game one from Hutchinson 6-5 before falling in game two 6-1.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Hesston (4-10, 2-8 Region VI) would respond with three runs of their own in the top of the second to tie the game. That would be all the scoring either team could muster until the Larks finally broke through in the sixth.

Hesston plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead, but it would be short lived as Neosho responded with a two runs of their own in the bottom half to tie the game again.

Hesston would score again in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. Anna Crawford drew a two out walk to bring the go ahead run to the plate for Neosho in the bottom half but they would not be able to push the run across.

Game two would see the Panthers jump out to a quick lead again, but this time they would hold on for the win. Neosho scored four runs in the first and followed that with three more in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Hesston would score single runs in the third and fifth inning of Neosho starting pitcher Hannah Murray. Murray worked 6.0 innings allowing 8 hits and 2 runs to earn the win. Neosho would add a pair of insurance runs in the sixth and Hesston would score an unearned run off Neosho reliever Ashton Cooper to make the final score 9-3.

Seven different Panthers recorded a hit in the second game. Tia Parker led the way going 2-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored while Kara Linch drove in a team high 2 runs in the win.

Saturday the Panthers would wrap up the home stand with a pair of games against Hutchinson Community College (8-12, 7-7 Region VI).  Hutchinson scored two runs in the first and added single runs in the second and fourth innings.

Neosho continued to battle back against the Blue Dragons as the Panthers added single runs of their own in the first, third, and fourth innings.

Hutchinson plated an insurance run in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead over the Panthers. After Jozie Garner reached base on an error to start the inning and Karley Barnett, Tia Parker provided the biggest hit of the game. Parkers two out 3-run homerun left center pushed the Panthers ahead of the Blue Dragons for the first time all game. Neosho starting pitcher Meaghan Thompson held Hutchinson scoreless in the sixth and seventh to earn the win.

The final game of the weekend started out as a pitcher's duel. After the Panthers plated a single run in the second and Hutchinson answered with a run of their own in the third, the teams headed to the fifth locked in a 1-1 tie.

The Blue Dragons finally got to Neosho starting pitcher Hannah Murray with three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.

The Panthers struggled to get string together hits off of Hutchinson pitching who scattered 5 hits over 7.0 innings while not allowing a walk and striking out four.

The Panthers end the weekend 11-16, and 7-7 in Region VI play. Neosho will play their next 12 games on the road before finally returning home on April 11 to take on Independence Community College.
