ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Neosho Panthers entered the District M playoffs needing just two wins to advance to the NJCAA Volleyball Championship. The two wins would have to come against No. 7 Cowley and No. 13 Johnson County. Top seeded Cowley defeated Neosho in straight sets in the opening game to extend their home court win streak to 69 straight.
The first set was back and forth with the Panthers winning to force set point up 24-23. The Tigers would rally to score three straight and take the first set 26-24. Cowley would take control early in the second and third sets, wining 25-13 and 25-15 to bring the Panthers season to a close.
The Neosho offense was effective getting the ball to their middles as
Annelle Anderson (9 kills, .292) and
Peyton Peavey (6, .294) were efficient, combining for just three errors on 41 attempts.
Madigan Gonzales was also effective hitting on the right side for the Panthers as she finished with seven kills on 18 swings.
Brea May dished out 31 assists while picking up 15 digs for her 14
th double-double of the season and her 9
th in the last 10 matches. Neosho dug out 73 balls in the match with
Chesney Vaughn (17),
Jill Starling (13),
Katie Pettis (13), and
Katy Rhodd (11) joining May in double figures.
Neosho ends the season 16-20 overall and 3-7 in Jayhawk Conference. It is just the second time in
Asya Herron's career that the Panthers finished below .500.
