Panthers Shutout High Scoring No. 19 Coffeyville for 1-0 win.

Neosho held the top scoring team in the conference scoreless to earn a key conference win.

CHANUTE, Kan. – The Panthers entered their match with No. 19 Coffeyville leading the conference with only 10 goals allowed this season. The Red Ravens high powered offense came into the match leading the conference with 41 goals scored in just 12 matches. It was the Neosho (9-3-0, 4-1-0) defense that won the battle as they held Coffeyville (9-3-1, 5-1-0) scoreless to earn a 1-0 win and three points in the conference standings.

Coffeyville's high powered offense is powered by a pair of players that are 1-2 in the conference in goals scored and are both in the top 25 nationally. They aggressive offense attack started from the opening touch and the Red Ravens attempted eight first half shots, but Ryan Davis stopped all four shots that were on goal.

For much of the first half the Panthers found themselves on defense as they only attempted a pair of first half shots, only one of which was on goal as the game stayed scoreless into the half.

Coffeyville, who has used two keepers for much of the season, made a change in goal to start the second half. Walker Farrar replaced Carlos Luquin in goal in what proved to be the pivotal move in the match.

Coffeyville fouled the Panthers just outside of the 18 yard box along the far sideline just 1:30 into the second half. Nelson Landaverde's well-placed free kick sailed just out of the reach of Farrar into the upper right hand corner of the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Luquin would come right back into the match and held the Panthers scoreless the rest of the match stopping all four shots attempts he faced. It was the Neosho defense that really shined in the match however.  The Panthers limited Coffeyville to just six shot attempts, only three that were on goal.

When the final seconds ticked off the Panthers notched their fifth shutout of the season. The Panther have now allowed only 2 goals in their last five games. Ryan Davis improves to 8-3-0 on the year and is currently 4th in the nation with 5 shutouts.

The win puts the Panthers in third in the conference standings with 12 points. They will play a non-conference match with MCC-Maplewoods Thursday evening before traveling to Concordia for a key Jayhawk Conference match. Cloud County currently leads the Panthers by a point in the standings, and a win would lift Neosho into a tie for first with Coffeyville.
