Panthers Shutout Thunderbirds for Sixth Straight Win

CONCORDIA, Kan. – Ryan Davis recorded third straight shutout and fourth in his last five games as Neosho (10-3, 5-1) extended their win streak to a season long six games with a 3-0 win at Cloud County (5-9-1, 3-3-1) to move into sole possession of second place in the Jayhawk Conference.

Aaron Crane got the scoring started for the Panthers with his fifth goal of the season in the 27th minute, which would prove to be the only scoring in the first half.

Goals would continue to be hard to come by in the second half until Nelson Landaverde found the back of the net on a free kick in the 80th minute for his 9th goal of the season. Geo Alfaro's first career goal came less than five minutes later and put the game well out of reach.

Over the current six game winning streak, the Panther defense has been outstanding allowing only two goals in their last 545 minutes to climb to near the top of the conference standings. Freshman keeper Ryan Davis has guided the defense during the stretch and is among the nation's leaders in multiple categories. His six shutouts is 4th in the NJCAA while his 0.74 goals against average ranks 10th. He ranks 15th in wins with 9 and 20th with a .833 save percentage.

With three games to play, the Panthers control their own destiny as they search for their first conference championship. Neosho currently trails leader Coffeyville by four points, but the Red Ravens have only 1 conference game left to play. The Panthers final stretch will not be an easy one however as they will host current 4th seed Dodge City Community College Friday before the final regular season home game Sunday against 3rd seed Barton Community College.
