Volleyball Splits a Pair of Road Games

The Neosho Panthers posted a 1-1 record in a pair of road games, falling to red hot Hesston College 3-1 and winning against Friends University JV 3-1.

The Panthers ran into a buzz saw Friday night when they faced Hesston College (19-5) who entered the match winners of their last 7 matches. Hesston jumped all over Neosho in the first set taking it 25-14. The Panthers would regroup and win a tight second set 25-23 but could not come through in the next two sets dropping them both 26-24.

Jill Starling narrowly missed her second straight triple double, finishing with a team high 18 kills on 49 attempts, and added 12 digs and 8 assists in the loss. Brea May sixth double double of the season with 40 assists and 10 digs.

Neosho would bounce back Saturday morning to even their record back at 14-14 with a 3-1 win at Friends. The Panthers cruised to a 25-14 win in the first set, but sloppy play in the second would cost them. Neosho hit  -.061 in the second set, committing 9 errors as they fell 25-14. They would respond in the third with a 25-13 win before taking the match in the fourth 25-17.

Starling and May each finished with double doubles in the match as Starling tallied team best 11 kills and 19 digs while May added 33 assists and 13 digs. Mackenzie Brown continued to blossom in her freshman campaign and has become a force serving. Brown finished four aces in the match and now has 14 over the last 4 matches.

The Panthers will be back in action Wednesday when they host Bacone (Okla.) College at 6pm before hitting the road for their final tournament of the year in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
