The Neosho County men's and women's soccer teams each face a tough test this week as they work to secure a spot in the post season with hopes of hosting a playoff game.
The women currently are in a tie for 8
th in the Region 6 standings. They are tied with Cowley who they earned a draw against over the weekend in Arkansas City. They will host 19
th ranked Johnson County Community College at the Chanute Sports Complex on Friday evening. The Cavaliers are currently 7-1 overall, and their 12 points put them in 4
th in the Region standings. Things won't get any easier for the Panthers as they will then travel to Barton Community College on Sunday to take on the top team in the Region. The Cougars are currently 6-2 overall and 6-0 in Region 6 play.
The men's team currently sits in 5
th in the Region 6 standings, but is only 3 points out of third in the standings. Johnson County's men enter Friday night's matchup at 5-4 overall and tied for fourth in the Region Standings, two points ahead of the Panthers. Saturday's matchup at Barton will see the Panthers taking on the top team in the region. The Cougars are 5-1 in Region play with their lone loss coming to Coffeyville.
"These are two big games for us," men's coach
Steven Harrison said. "We let a win slip away last week at Cowley after we gave up the lead twice. It was important for us to at least get a point, but we need to a good week to put ourselves in a good position moving forward."
The Panthers home game with Johnson on Friday (Sept. 27) will start with the women kicking off at 5:00 pm and the men to follow. Sunday's games at Barton will begin with the women at 2:00 pm and the men after.
