Cowley Ends Panthers Regular Season With a Loss

Box Score The Neosho County Panthers and the Cowley Tigers were playing their second conference game in 24 hours Thursday (Feb 28) evening. Both teams had picked up road wins only to return home late that evening. The Panthers would have to get right back on the bus and make the trip to Arkansas City, Kansas for a game that would have no bearing on the final Region VI standings.

The Panthers were sluggish early in the ballgame and Cowley came out shooting the ball well as they jumped out to an early lead they would hold on to heading to the locker room at halftime. The Panthers would find themselves trailing 42-27 as the Tigers shot a blistering 50% (15-30) from the field and 53% (8-15) from behind the arc.

Neosho County would make a small run to try and claw back into the ball game early in the second half, but the Tigers would hold off the run while continuing their hot shooting. Cowley would shoot 50% from the field once again in the second half as they cruised to a 74-54 win.

Jake Stoppel would once again lead the Panthers in scoring as he finished with 13 points to go with his team high 7 rebounds. Jeremy Nolen and D'Marco Smith each finished with 10 to join Stoppel in double figures.

The loss drops the Panthers to 12-18 overall and 5-13 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Panthers have secured the 5 seed in the Region VI Eastern Division standings. They will travel to El Dorado, KS on Saturday (March 2) to take on the Butler Grizzlies, the 4 seed in the Western Division. Game time on Saturday will be approximately 7:30 pm following the Butler women's game against Labette Community College. Live Video and Live Stats for the game will available via the Butler Community College Athletic Department.
