Panthers cruise in season opener.

Four different players scored in double figures as Neosho County cruised past Ottawa University 118-46 to open the season.

The Panthers jumped out to an early first half lead and never looked back as they used a smothering defense and lights out shooting to dispatch the Braves. Neosho held Ottawa to only 20 percent shooting for the game while forcing 20 turnovers and blocking 11 shots.

On the offensive end the Braves had no answer as Neosho shot 64 percent for the game and 60 percent from behind the three-point line. They also shared the ball well as the team recorded 31 assists on their 43 made field goals.

Freshman Joe Acuil finished with game highs for points, rebounds, and blocks as he finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Brett Frantz was perfect from the field as he finished 6-6 from the field and 4-4 from behind the arc for 16 points.

Charles Cooper finished 14 points and 4 steals and Jelani Pruit had 13 points and 4 steals to round out the double digit scorers. Freshman point guard had 8 points to go with a game high 7 assists. D'Avonte Garland added 6 assists to go with his 8 points.

The Panthers will be back in action Monday (Nov. 4) when the host Southwestern College at 7:30 pm.
