Softball Sweeps Hesston Community College

Neosho Softball faced Hesston Community College on Friday, April 6th and took both games from them. It was a good day for the Lady Panthers who took game one, 2-1 and won the second game 9-1.

In game one, Hesston jumped out on top 1-0 in the first inning but after that, Kyllie Sill and her defense only allowed 6 runners on base the rest of the game. Sill registered 6 strikeouts on the game, 5 hits and 1 walk. Neosho scored both of their runs in the 5th inning with Kaitlin Wilson reaching base on an error on the right fielder. She was moved to 3rd on Taylor Williams sacrifice bunt. With one out, Sill popped up to the centerfielder with a deep fly ball but it wasn't deep enough to get Wilson home. Cortney Miller then reached on a fielder's choice, got to second with a stolen base and Kiley Pedigo reached with a base on balls. With bases loaded, Kaleena Castor hit a shot up the middle to score both Wilson and Miller. She had the only 2 RBI's of the game. Mackensie Sanders would end the inning leaving Castor and Pedigo stranded. Hesston threatened in the seventh starting off the inning with a double to right center field but was held at second with Brittany Cooper's diving save to keep runners at 1st and 2nd. Sill then loaded the bases with a walk and Neosho still had no outs. The next three batters would be retired, starting with a strikeout looking, a pop up to the catcher Kassady Foister and then a ground ball to Pedigo to end the inning and the game.

Game two was just as exciting with Neosho starting pitcher Mary Ann Greer who only allowed 5 hits and no earned runs. The lone run scored in the 4th inning for the Larks who reached 1st on an error by Pedigo. Neosho jumped on the starting pitcher for the Larks and scored 4 runs in the 1st inning.  The Lady Panthers would score 9 runs off of 10 hits for the game.  In the 5th inning, Castor started things off with a single up the middle and would be moved around by Brittany Cooper's hit to deep left center. With Castor at 3rd and Cooper at 2nd, Foister would score Castor and Cooper on a single to right field. Greer would then step up and reach 1st base with an error on the left fielder. With runners at 2nd and 1st, Kaitlin Wilson would get up to the plate, with no outs and a 3-1 count, and hit a shot over right center field, scoring 3 runs. This would end the game early with a score of 9-1 for a run rule in the 5th inning.

Neosho Softball is back on their home field on Tuesday the 10th to face Labette County Community College at 2&4.
