Today, the Lady Panther softball team faced off against Labette County Community College in a conference doubleheader. Neosho split with Labette who is ranked first in the conference and #10 in the Nation for Division 2 Junior College, winning game 1 but losing game 2.
In game 1, defense was key for the Lady Panthers. Offensively, Neosho hit the ball well and scored when they needed to. In the 3
rd,
Cortney Miller would start off the inning with a walk and would be moved to second on an error on Labette's pitcher, also allowing
Kiley Pedigo to get on base. With runners at 1
st and 2
nd,
Kaleena Castor steps up to the plate and gets a timely hit up the middle to score both Miller and Pedigo. Starting pitcher
Kyllie Sill threw lights out going three up, three down until the 5
th inning where Labette would score one run, and would threaten another. Labette's 4 hole would ground out to Sill to start the inning with one out. Vance would then get up to bat and get a double to right center field and would score off of Daniels hit to right field. Neosho's
Mackensie Sanders would attempt to dive for the deep fly ball and would get injured on the play allowing Daniels to reach third. Sanders left the game due to the injury but is doing well. Mary Ann Greer would enter the game in her place. With a runner at 3
rd base and only 1 out, the 7 hole hitter, would get on base on a fielder's choice with Neosho's
Brittany Cooper making the throw home to get the out and keep the tying run from scoring. In the 6
th, Labette would tie up the game making it 2 all but would not score again. In the 7
th, with 2 outs, Neosho's
Kaitlin Wilson would step up and hit a shot to left field to get a double. She would then be moved over on
Taylor Williams hit to the pitcher, who made an error and allowed Williams to reach 1
st base.
Kelsey Wilson stepped up to the plate, taking an outside pitch to right field to score her sister for the go ahead run, making the score 3-2. In the top of the 7
th, Sill gets 2 of the outs herself with ground balls back to her. Overacker and Pitts both reach the bases, one would get a base hit to right, and the other would reach on an error by centerfield. However, with runners at 3
rd and 2
nd, Sill would get a pop up to Cooper at 3
rd to end the game. Final score was Neosho 3- Labette 2.
In game 2, the bats game alive for the Cardinals. On 12 hits, Labette scored 11 runs and with not much offense from Neosho, they would lose the game 11-2. In this game, Neosho would strand 8 runners on the bases. The Panthers scored 1 run in the 3
rd and 4
th inning but would not score again the rest of the game.
The Lady Panthers will face Ft. Scott in another conference double header on Tuesday, April 17
th at 2 & 4 at home.
