The Neosho County Panthers hosted Cowley College on a rain soaked Friday night. The Panthers were looking to gain crucial points as the work toward a postseason berth.
The Panthers would control the ball for most of the first half, but both teams would have a difficult time scoring. Cowley would get the first good look of the game in the 23
rd minute but Jordan May would make a diving save. A long put back attempt by the Tigers would hit the post and the game would remain scoreless.
Neosho would finally break the scoreless tie with only three minutes before half time when
David Bustos scored with the assist from Andy Campbell. The score would stay 1-0 as the teams headed to half time.
After being in control for most of the first half, the Panthers would see themselves playing defense for much of the second half. The Tigers would tie the game up in the 53
rd minute when their header would slip just past keeper Jordan May's reach.
Cowley would take their first lead of the game with 33:00 left in the game when they would put one in on a long pass.
The Tigers would add another goal with 15:00 left on a corner kick to take a 3-1 lead. Cowley would add another insurance goal to put the game out of reach with only 3:00 left.
The loss drops the Panthers to 6-5-2 on the season 2-4-2 in region play. They will play with their postseason lives on the line Monday night when they travel Pratt Community College. A win on Monday guarantees the Panthers a spot in the region tournament while a loss would leave them on the outside looking in. Kickoff for the crucial match is set for 4:00pm in Pratt, Kansas.
