Topeka, KS - The Men's and Women's Track & Field team took to Washburn University for the Ichabod Invitational over the weekend. In one of the most competitive meets in the Midwest the Panthers had some excellent performances highlighting the major strides the team has been making.
Just a week removed from 3 of the Panthers international atheltes having set National Records for their country, the Panthers added 2 more international athletes setting National records for their country.
Vaioleta Luka from Tuvalu re-broke her own 60m National record by dipping under the 8.4 second mark in 8.36 seconds. Following that performance
Melania Turaga from Fiji took down the Indoor 800m National Record for Fiji running an impressive 2:23.00. The time also bested the Neosho County school record and sets her and her teammates in the 4x800m up for making a run at qualifying for that event at the National Championships where the team currently sets 13th in the Country, (Top 16 automatically qualify for the Championships).
The Panthers gear up for their toughest challenge yet as they head into the Region 6 Championships hosted at Pittsburg State University, Saturday and Sunday February 22nd and 23rd.Â
