Chanute, KS - In what was a heated back and forth affair, Neosho came out on top vs their rival Fort Scott CC, 77-78 in overtime. This game had a little bit of everything, including 17 lead changes, 4 technical fouls, and wild finishes at both regulation and overtime.
After 39 minutes of game play, NCCC was able to get up by 3 with 15 seconds remaining, but a mad scramble for a loose ball resulted in Fort Scott taking and making a 3pt shot with 7 seconds left to tie the game. Neosho had one last look but turned it over, and it almost cost them as Andre Norris from Fort Scott was about half an inch from making an improbable full court heave with 0.8 seconds left; a shot that hit back rim, then front rim, and bounced out.
Overtime was more of the same with Fort Scott jumping out to a lead and Neosho battling back, taking a 3 point lead late on a
Tane Kirisome 3pt make. But the dramatic climax came with 5 seconds left and Fort Scott down by 1. Clance Crosby got fouled on a put-back and had 2 shots to either tie the game or take the lead from the free throw line. Unfortunately for Fort Scott, Crosby couldn't connect on either and Neosho was able to come away with the big time win.
NCCC had a number of impact performances and got double digit scoring from
Alexander Norris (16 pts),
Traymond Willis-Shaw (13 pts),
Michael Odingo (10 pts), and
Tane Kirisome (11 pts). Freshman center
Peter Obeng was arguably the MVP for the Panthers in this one, finishing with 8 pts, 9 rbs, 3 blks, and 3 stls.
The Panthers will remain at home on Saturday as they take on Allen County.
