Game Recap: Baseball |

Panthers Swept By #11 Cowley on Road

Panther baseball was back in action this afternoon to finish off their series with #11 Cowley College, in Arkansas City, KS. Self-induces mistakes would be the difference in both games, as Neosho fell 3-2 in game one and 13-12 in game two.
Game 1:
Owen Chaffin would take the ball for the Panthers in game number one of the doubleheader. The righty would pitch well enough to win the game, as he tossed 6.1 innings, scattered 7 hits, and gave up 3 runs. Unfortunately, for Chaffin and the Panthers, Cowley's pitchers also threw well. The Panthers would get an early run in the 1st inning on a Cowley error that scored Brady. Neosho would get another run in the top of the 4th inning when Brett Wiemers grounded out to score Mason Lundgrin. Cowley would score a run in the 2nd inning and in the 5th inning to knot the game up at two. Chaffin went back out for the 7th, however, Cowley would walk it off on a double down the line to take a 3-2 win over the Panthers.

Offensively, the Panthers scored two runs on six hits. Strikeouts were an issue for Neosho's offense, as they struck out 13 times in the ballgame. They also left six runners on base over the course of the 7 inning game. Daegan Brady was the standout offensively for the Panthers as he went 2-4 with a run scored.
Game 2:
Drake LaRoche got the nod for game two of the doubleheader on the mound for the Panthers. He tossed 4.2 innings, gave up 6 hits, and 1 earned run. Unfortunately, for LaRoche and the Panthers, errors would plague Neosho County in game two. The Panthers committed 8 errors in the field behind LaRoche and the Panther pitching staff. Jordan Linderer, Brett Wiemers, Nathan Hungate, Colten Nelson, and Brance Ware would all make appearances in this ball game. Despite the 8 errors, and 11 free passes given out by the Neosho County pitching staff, the Panthers had a chance to win this game. Neosho County took a 12-10 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, and went to their most reliable arm out of the pen, Colten Nelson. Nelson got two quick ground balls to Jordon Helm for the first two outs of the inning. However, a two out walk, a single, a triple, a walk, and then a wild pitch flipped the scoreboard to a 13-12 walk-off win for the Tigers.

Offensively, The Panthers produced 12 runs on 12 hits. Strikeouts and runners left on base was still an issue for the Panthers, despite scoring 12 runs. Neosho left 10 on base and struck out 10 times. Andrew Brautman was the standout offensively, as he hit for the cycle in this game and drove in 5 runners. Jack Cosper also notched a multi-hit game by leaving the yard in his first at bat, and then doubled in his second plate appearance.

The Panthers will look to get back on track on Tuesday, March 30th, as they host Butler Community College for a single 9 inning game, at 1:00 PM from Hudson Field.
