COFFEYVILLE, KS. -- Despite the quick turnaround Monday night in Coffeyville the Panthers managed to compose a highly competitive game against the conference powerhouse Red Ravens, who last week were ranked #2 in the NJCAA Polls but fell to #6 after Monday's new NJCAA poll.
The Orange and Black managed to hang around throughout the contest, until the Ravens Tyler Perry splashed three straight three-pointers that would put the Panthers away for good.
Coach Jeremy Coombs thoughts on the game, "I thought we did a great job for 30 minutes of the game. We just ran out of steam and once we let our guard down Perry hit us with a couple of haymakers we couldn't recover from".
The Panthers and Ravens would stand toe to toe in the first half with the Panthers taking a 9-point lead with 4:25 to play in the first but the Ravens would make use a 12 to 4 run to finish the half and lead the Panthers 40-38\ at the break.
In the second half, the Panthers would go back and forth with the Ravens, until a Titus turnover led to a transition three from Tyler Perry with just 11:05 left in the game to put the Ravens up 5 (54-49). The Panthers would not go away as Reliford would take over hitting his third three-pointer of the game. Unfortunately, with 6:38 to play the Ravens Kevaugh Ellis would nail two threes followed by three more from Coffeyville's Tyler Perry who ended with 22 points leading the Ravens to an 84-56 victory.
"When you play a team as talented as Coffeyville you can't turn the ball over 16 times and shoot 45% from the free-throw line and win. I thought our guys played hard but ultimately our mistakes opened the flood gates for them, and they took advantage of it."-Jeremy Coombs
