Game Recap: Baseball |

Panthers Split with Red Devils in KJCCC Play

The Neosho County Panthers opened up KJCCC play this afternoon when they hosted the Red Devils of Allen Community College. The Panthers split this opening doubleheader as they fell to the Red Devils 8-5 in game one; and then beat Allen Community College 7-1 in game two.

Game 1:

Panther right-handed pitcher Taylor Parrett took the hill for Neosho County to open up KJCCC play. The North Dakotan tossed 5.0 innings, giving up 5 runs, and struck out 6. Although Parrett did not have his best stuff, he competed and gave the Panthers a chance. The Red Devils did most of their damage in the third inning, as they scored four in the frame. Outside of the Panthers one run in the fourth inning, scoring was halted for both teams for most of the game. Tyler McQuinn entered the game in the sixth inning with the game tied 5-5. The righty tossed 3.0 innings, giving up three runs, on seven hits. McQuinn would eventually take the loss in this one as the Red Devils would score three in the top of the eighth inning. The loaded Panther offense was pretty stagnant in this loss. Neosho County had six hits in the contest and did not have a single extra base hit. The Panthers left seven runners on base, and struck out seven times. Andrew Brautman, Drew Miller, Khalil Thrasher, Mason Lundgrin, Brett Wiemers, and Jordon Helm all notched a hit in this ballgame.

Coach Murry on game one, "I thought Taylor [Parrett] was okay today. I think he competed, but threw way too many pitches. Offensively, we have to be better. Too many strike outs and unproductive outs with runners in scoring position. We had many chances to win this ballgame and we couldn't execute. Props to Allen's relievers, they came in and did a great job keeping us off balance and throwing up some zeroes in a tight ballgame".

Game 2:

Jack Ebright, the Freshman from Wichita, KS, took the hill for the Panthers in game two. The KJCCC Conference Pitcher of the Week from a couple of weeks ago did not disappoint. The right hander tossed 7.0 innings, giving up two hits, one run, and struck out eight, to earn himself his second win of the season. The Panthers offense showed a little bit more productivity in game two, as they compiled nine hits and seven runs. Neosho did most of their damage in the 4th inning. Andrew Brautman got the party started by singling to start the inning. Daegan Brady followed up with a single of his own to put runners at 1st and 2nd for Drew Miller. Miller singled, scoring Brautman and advancing Brady. Khalil Thrasher also singled in the inning scoring Brady and advancing Miller. Mason Lundgrin and Brett Wiemers would also single in the 4th inning to end up scoring five total runs in the inning. Jack Cosper would provide the only extra base hit for the Panthers as he doubled in the 6th inning.

Coach Murry on game two, "Jack [Ebright] is fun to watch throw. He is a competitor that attacks the zone and makes hitters beat him. I thought he did a fantastic job this afternoon and gave our club just what we needed after we got punched in the mouth. Offensively, I thought our hitters did a better job of cashing in runners that were on base. After losing game one, we needed a big game from everyone involved. I am very proud of our guys for showing up and taking care of business after a tough loss".

The Panthers will host Allen Community College at Hudson Field on Saturday to close out their conference series. The Red Devils elected to give up their home games and play all four games in Chanute, due to their field being under construction. Game time is set for 12:00 PM, pending weather that may be coming in over the weekend. Keep a close eye on goneosho.com and social media for any game changes that may occur.
