Game 1:
Neosho Softball defeats NOC Enid 10-7 on Monday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at seven with the Panthers batting in the top of the eighth when an error scored one run for the Panthers.
The second inning of this game was when Neosho really got their offense started. The leadoff batter of the inning, Lauren Fuller doubled to right field, then Britney Hughes sacrifice bunted. Fuller advanced all the way to third. Ayche Marchoud, Zito, Birdwell, and Gazaway all showcases plate discipline and earned walks in that same inning. Katie Boline had an RBI single in the inning. The Panthers ending the top of the second with seven big runs.Â
NOC Enid evened things up at seven in the bottom of the fourth inning, but it wasn't enough to contain Neosho's offense. Lauren Fuller earned the win for the Panthers. The pitcher went three and a third innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out two and walking one. Olivia Cummings threw four and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Cummings recorded the last 14 outs to earn the save for the Panthers.
Neosho saw the ball well today, racking up seven hits in the game. Fuller, Katie Boline, and Kirsten Birdwell each had multiple hits. Neosho's wheels were also hot with six stolen bases during the game. Birdwell and Boline led the way with two. Alyssa Gillespie and Mallory Gazaway each had a stolen base as well. It was an exciting win in the seventh with the score holding up at 10-7.
Game 2
The Panthers nabbed the lead late in the game in a 9-8 victory over NOC Enid for game two, earning themselves a sweep. Neosho trailed 8-7 in the top of the fifth inning when Kirsten Birdwell homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. The girls collected nine clutch hits during game two. With three being big home runs by sophomores Cassidy Paulson in the second, Mallory Gazaway in the fourth, and Kirsten Birdwell in the fifth. Paulson, Gazeway, and Birdwell also found themselves with multi-RBI games. Zito, Birdwell, and Gazaway each collected multiple hits for the Panthers. Neosho was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error over the course of game two.Katie Boline started game two and Cassidy Paulson led the Panthers to victory on the rubber. Paulson allowed five hits and two runs over three innings, striking out one and walking zero.
The Panthers will look to stay hot as they will travel to Rose State College to take on the Raiders on 2/23 at 2/4PM.
