Panthers Drop Two Games at Coffeyville

The Panthers traveled to Coffeyville Community College for Jayhawk Conference play today. The Red Ravens bested the Panthers 10-9 in game one and 5-1 in game two.
Game One:
Josh Flack took the hill for the Panthers in game one of the conference series versus the Ravens of Coffeyville Community College. Flack tossed 6.0 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits. The Panther offense stayed hot in this game compiling 9 runs on 11 hits. This game seemed to be well in hand going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Panthers had a 9-5 lead with freshman pitcher Brett Wiemers toeing the rubber. Neosho County ran into some bad luck as three errors extended what should have been a 1,2,3 inning. The Ravens utilized these extra outs to score 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to walk-off the Panthers 10-9. This loss puts the Panthers overall record to 11-5 and their conference record to 3-2.
Game Two:
Sophomore pitcher Cam Blazek was called upon to start game two for the Panthers. Blazek compiled 7.0 innings and gave up zero earned runs. The Panther offense was held at bay by the Raven pitching staff in this game. Neosho County was only able to tally one run on 6 hits in this game. The Ravens were able to capitalize on some key Panther mistakes to score 5 runs on 8 hits. Another key to this loss was Neosho's inability to deliver a big hit with runners in scoring position. The Panthers left 11 runners on base. To make matters worse they stranded the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the 7th inning. Errors and lack of execution hurt the Panthers in this 5-1 loss. This defeat brings the Panthers overall record to 11-6 with a 3-3 conference record.
