Chanute, KS- Panther Baseball opened up their season with a two game sweep of the Ottawa Braves. The Panthers played season got underway with snow in the outfield during game one of the double-header. Neosho won game one 11-0 with freshman
Cam Blazek, who threw a complete game. Blazek gave up just one hit in the outing with one walk and seven strikeouts. On the offensive side, the Panthers were led by Sophomore
Brady Garrison and Freshman
Khalil Thrasher. Garrison would go 2 for 2 with 3 RBI's, while Thrasher had 3 hits and a pair of RBI's in the Panther victory.
The Panthers started game two by scoring in the bottom of the first and second inning, which put the Panthers ahead 5-0 going into the top of the 3rd inning. Ottawa would score 4 runs in the 3rd inning on Freshman
Ben DesRosiers making it a 5-4 game going into the top of the fourth inning. Neosho answered with 4 more runs in the next three innings to make it 9-4. Ottawa tacked on one more run in the seventh, making the final score 9-5.
Adam Theis was 3 for 3 in game two with 2 RBI's, and Garrison was 2 for 3 adding 3 RBI's to bring his total to 6 RBI's on the day.
Next up, the Panthers will play Northeast Community College on Monday, Februrary 25th at Hudson Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM.
