Chanute, KS – The
Neosho County Women's Basketball team lost 87-86 in a nail-biter on Monday against
Coffeyville Community College. This was a back and forth affair with 12 lead changes.
Neosho was up 85-83 with 2 minutes left in regulation when the Red Raven tied things up. It was clear that the game would come down to which team had the last possession. The Panthers were able to tie up the score after a layup by
Jessica Jones off a steal and assist by
Kelcey Hinz. During the last 40 seconds Neosho would regain a one point lead when Freshman Destiny Steward hit both her free-throws. Coffeyville had to the ball with less than 20 seconds left and the Panthers tried to hold onto their 86-85 lead, but the Red Ravens were able to get a last second put back that gave them the 87-86 victory.
Sophomore
Calea Augustin led the Panthers in scoring with 15 points followed by
Jessica Jones with 14 points.
Kelcey Hinz added 13 points, 12 rebounds and 5 steals.
The Panthers will take on Cloud County on Wednesday February 20
th. The game is set to start at 6:00 pm.
