Panthers Host the Grizzlies of MSU-West Plains

THIS DAY IN PANTHER BASKETBALL HISTORY
 
On this day in 2012, the Panthers hosted the Ottawa University Braves for an early non-conference matchup. Panther freshman Jake Stoppel helped the Panthers to a 94 to 72 victory moving the Panthers to 4 and 0 in non-conference play.  Jake went off for 17 points in just twenty-one minutes of play. Originally from Wilson Kansas, Jake was one of the state's most highly sought-after recruits.  Stoppel was the state's 3rd leading scorer at 27.9 points per game. He was 1st team all-state in basketball, 2nd team all-state in football, he also played baseball and at the state track meet he competed in the 100, 200, 400 and long jump. Jake played only one season for the Panthers before accepting a scholarship to play for Fort Hays State University. In Jakes's single season with the Panthers, he averaged 14.1 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game. #SHOtime
 
Panthers Host the Grizzlies of MSU-West Plains
 
Chanute, KS – The Panthers will play host to the powerhouse MSU-West Plains Grizzlies this evening for their 5th game of the season.  The Panthers have fallen in their last two games on the road and are excited to return to the comforts of their home court.

SETTING THE SCENE
The Panthers are coming off back to back road losses as the (#2) Highland Scotties beat the Panthers 67-63 last Thursday evening and then lost to the (RV) Fort Scott Greyhounds 61 to 58 while shooting an ugly 23% from behind the arch and 35% from the field. Tonight, the Panthers return home but face a talented MSU-West Plains. 
 
SCOUTING WEST PLAINS
The Panthers will look to get back to their winning ways as they play host to the MSU-West Plains Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are 2 and 3 on the season but have played an extremely tough schedule up to this point.  Losing to NJCAA #2 Ranger College, #8 South Plains College and RV Southeastern College.  The Grizzlies are averaging 81.3 points per game while shooting an outstanding 43% from the field.  The Grizzlies are led by Florida State commit Sardaar Calhoun who is currently averaging 22.3 points per game.  The Grizzlies also depend on the University of West Virginia transfer Taevon Horton who is averaging 13.3 points per game. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
In the Coombs era, the Panthers are 3-3 vs West Plains. In the last meeting with the Grizzlies, the Panthers fell 67-91.
