Coffeyville, KS. - The Neosho County women's basketball team suffered a loss on the road Saturday to Coffeyville, 80-69. "This was a disappointing loss for us tonight. We needed this win," said Coach Davis, Neosho County head coach, "we struggled both offensively and defensively tonight."
Neosho County (6-16 overall, 3-9 KJCCC) shot 31.4% from the field while Coffeyville (5-17 overall, 4-9 KJCCC) shot 45.6%. "Our free throws killed us tonight,' Coach Davis added, "those are uncontested shots, we have to knock those down." Neosho went 16-31 from the charity stripe.
Neosho started off strong in the first quarter leading the Red Ravens 12-9. The Red Ravens turned it up in the second adding 24 points to their score and held Neosho to 18, giving Coffeyville a lead of 3 to end the first half, 33-30. Third quarter neither team had a good shooting performance, Neosho added 14 and Coffeyville 19, ending the period with the Red Ravens in the lead, 52-44. Neosho scored the most points of the game in the fourth adding 25, but was not enough to seal the deal.
Freshman Jessica Jones lead the team in scoring with 19 points. Freshman Chrissy Brown added 16 point and 3 steals. Sophomore Alexis Casher ripped down 11 rebounds and chipped in 9 points.
The Panthers return to action Wednesday, January 30th as they host the Cloud County T-Birds (14-8 overall, 7-6 KJCCC). Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
