Cold second-half shooting costs Panthers in rematch with Beavers

Box Score

Pratt, Ks - Panthers second-half shooting led the Panthers to a 90-70 road loss to the Pratt Beavers. Neosho just couldn't make enough shots in the second half to pull off a sweep of the Pratt Beavers. Earlier in conference play the Beavers came to Chanute and the Panthers handed them a 91-103 loss. But this time the tables were turned.

Pratt jumped out to an early first half lead but the Panthers came storming back with several highlight-real dunks by Montrell Dixson and Brandon Fenner knocked down 5 of 7 three pointer to take a 40-38 lead into the locker room.

"I thought Pratt came out with a great Plan it and really got after us." Said Coach Jeremy Coombs "But I thought we did a great job of responding and taking it one possession at a time."

In the second half the Panthers and Beavers went back and forth for the first 10min but shots just weren't falling for the Panthers As they went 7-28 from the field and only knocked down one three pointer in the half.

"I think missing some of those open looks early in the second half just got in our heads, Coombs Said "I thought we took good shots they just weren't falling."

At the 6min mark Pratt was knocking down 3's and hit several free throws that helped them build a 10pt lead.

"After they knocked down several 3's it really spread out our defense and allowed them easy drives to the bucket" Coombs Said "I thought we played great defense until after the media time out and then we struggled to get stops."

The Beavers would finish the Panthers off with a 10-3 run to end the ballgame.

Panthers are back in action Saturday when they host Coffeyville at 4pm.

Note: Neosho County Community College will also be hosting their Autism Awareness games this Saturday vs Coffeyville.
