The Conquistadors of Dodge City Community College came to town for a Jayhawk Conference matchup with the Neosho County Panthers. The Panthers got out to an early lead with a 13-11 advantage after the first quarter and led 28-24 at the half. Poor free throw shooting and defensive fouls stalled the Panthers in the second half, cutting their lead to 42-40 going into the fourth quarter.
The Conquistadors took a strong lead going into the final minute of competition, but the Panthers stormed back.
Beth Hawkins led the final push with three 3-pointers in the last minute of the game, but it was not enough. The Panthers came up short 61-63, dropping their record to 6-15 overall, 3-14 in conference.
Beth Hawkins led the Panthers in scoring with 15 points, while
Don'tajah Jones added 11. Jones' 7 rebounds paced the Panthers, followed by 6 from Alexis Boyd and 5 for
Alexis Casher. Lexy Watts contributed 6 assists.
The Panthers compete again on Wednesday, January 31
st at 5:30pm when they travel to Hutchinson to take on the Blue Dragons.
