Panthers Split At Johnson County

Overland Park, KAN. – A 3-1 win over Johnson County moved the Neosho men into first place in the Jayhawk East standings while the women fell 4-2 to the Cavaliers and dropped into a tie for three way tie for 2nd.

Trailing 3-0 at halftime, the Neosho women tried to mount a second half comeback against the Cavaliers but Johnson County answered each of the Panthers goals. Danisha Brown cut the lead to 3-1 with her team leading fifth goal of the season but the Cavs responded with a goal of their own to make it 4-1. McKenzie Ball's fourth goal of the season would cut the lead to 4-2 but that would be all the scoring the Panthers could muster. After being named the KJCCC Keeper of the Week earlier in the day, Autumn Wilson tied her career high with 15 saves in the loss including a save of a penalty kick in the first half.

In the men's game, Josue Villalta gave the Panthers a quick 1-0 lead with his fifth goal of the season in the 11'. Marcos Lucero would extend the lead to 2-0 with his fifth goal of the season in the 22' off a pass from Eduardo Carvalho. Later in the 35' the duo would reverse roles as Carvalho found the net off a pass from Lucero as the lead ballooned to 3-0. Moussa Sy stopped all five shots he faced in 36 minutes in goal while Franklin Mendez stepped in for the final 54 minutes and posted 4 saves as the duo combined for the win.
