Panthers experience mixed results at Cowley ARKANSAS CITY – After a split with conference foe Cowely Community College on Thursday in Chanute, the Neosho County Community College baseball team split again on Saturday to conclude the season's four-game series.
In game one, the teams played to a scoreless tie after nine innings.
Finally, in the top of the 10th, sophomore catcher Cooper Minnick and sophomore outfielder Aaron Dees led off the frame with singles. Dees was later driven home by sophomore first baseman Tanner Arst.
Cowley responded with a pair of singles of its own, and with the Panthers one out away from earning an extra-inning victory, Cowley doubled driving in a pair of runs to steal a 2-1 walk-off win.
Minnick, Dees and sophomore outfielder Nate Crossman combined for six of the team's nine hits as the Panthers stranded a total of 13 on base.
Sophomore Tripp Wright was tagged with the loss in relief.
In game two, it was the Panthers who scored last in a 7-6 victory.
Neosho County looked to set the tone early, scoring four times in the top of the first inning.
It was a lead the held until the bottom of the fifth inning when Cowley plated four of its own to take a 6-5 lead.
Three consecutive walks and a two-RBI single by Dees put the Panthers back in front for good.
Dees ended the second game 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs.
Freshman Tanner Allen picked up his first win of the season, working the final seven outs of the game. He struck out three.
The Panthers (15-9 overall and 5-7 in the KJCCC) host Northeast Oklahoma A&M at 1 pm this afternoon in a single 9-inning contest, and Neosho County will also host league-leading Allen County Community College
(24-5 and 10-2) on Thursday at 1 pm in a KJCCC showdown.
