Neosho County 2-1 on Iowa Trip

FORT DODGE, Iowa – The Neosho County Community College volleyball team returned to Iowa on Friday for a pair of matches. In the first match of the night, the Panthers fell to Iowa Central Community College, 3-1. The No. 18-ranked Panthers won the first set 26-24, but the No. 17-ranked Tritons won the next three sets, 25-14, 25-22, 25-12. Sophomore Maryssa Recio paced the Panther attack with 11 kills. No one else had more than four. Ryann Flax, Breann Becker and Kalyn Bitner each added four. Defensively, Madison Miller recorded a team-high 24 digs, while Recio, Flax and Ryed Creek had one block apeice. In the other match, Neosho County swept Dakota County (Minn.) Technical College, 3-0. The Panthers breezed through the match 25-14, 25-15, 25-19. Recio again led the Panthers in kills with nine. Deldra Sellers added five. Miller tallied 18 digs, while Karlyn Wagner tallied two blocks.
    The next day, the Panthers traveled to Creston, Iowa and capped off the weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Southwestern Community College. Recio and Joanna Riggs led the Neosho County with nine kills each, while Chandler Karr and Kalyn Bitner added eight each. Defensively, Miller tallied 18 digs, while Riggs had 16 and Kylie Corneliusen 14. As a team, the Panthers had seven blocks, with four courtesy of Bitner.
    Neosho County is now 24-10 overall and 4-2 in the KJCCC East. The Panthers return to conference action Wednesday in Ark City against the No. 6-ranked Cowley Community College Tigers (31-4 and 6-1). First serve is scheduled at 6:30 pm.
